Mayor Oscar B. Goodman Visits London to Tout New British Airways Non-stop Flights to Las Vegas

New partnership with British Airways more than 10 years in the making

LONDON - Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, chairman of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), has arrived in London for a business trip designed to heighten the Las Vegas brand there and generate new British travelers on the first-ever, non-stop flights from London's Heathrow Airport. "Everyone knows that Las Vegas offers world-class gaming, entertainment, hotels, boutique shopping and restaurants, and we want to make it as easy as possible for people to visit our city," Goodman said. "This new British Airways flight from London Heathrow to Las Vegas will only increase visitor demand from the United Kingdom and throughout Europe." The United Kingdom is the No. 1 source of overseas travelers to Las Vegas, generating nearly 400,000 visitors in 2008. British Airways announced new daily, non-stop service to Las Vegas in May. Heathrow's Terminal 5 is dedicated to British Airways and serves as the airline's primary regional hub for feeder flights originating in 45 European cities. The mayor's schedule in London will include high-profile interviews with some of the United Kingdom's most influential media outlets including The Telegraph, BBC World and CNN Live. Additionally, the mayor will meet with British Airways Chairman Martin Broughton and officials from the International Rugby Board, who last week announced a new partnership with Las Vegas that brings the USA Sevens rugby annual tournament to the destination in February 2010. During the course of his visit, the mayor's efforts will be highlighted through a dedicated blog that can be accessed at http://www.vegasontheroad.com. Additionally, journalists can follow the mayor's progress by accessing the LVCVA's media center at http://www.thenewsmarket.com/LVCVA where photos and video will be available for download. British Airways begins non-stop service to Las Vegas on Sunday, Oct. 25. Mayor Goodman will be on the inaugural flight that arrives in Las Vegas at approximately 7:30 p.m.
