LAS VEGAS PARTNERS WITH SOUTHWEST AIRLINES ON NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK CAMPAIGN

LAS VEGAS (May 12, 2008) - From May 12 - 16, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), together with Southwest Airlines, will embark on a three-part campaign in celebration of National Tourism Week.

National Tourism Week is the time set aside each year to raise awareness of the benefits of tourism to communities and to celebrate individuals who contribute to the success of the industry.

A "Hospitality Heroes" campaign will honor industry professionals responsible for delivering superior customer service to Las Vegas visitors. Nominated by their supervisors and coworkers at hospitality-oriented organizations throughout the community, 35 recipients will be recognized with a certificate and roundtrip tickets for two on Southwest Airlines. The presentations will take place at each recipient's workplace during his or her regular shift some time during the week of May 12 - 16.

To demonstrate just how much "Vegas Loves Visitors," costumed entertainers representing a variety of Las Vegas shows are planning to surprise visitors waiting in baggage claim at McCarran International Airport with complimentary show tickets, attraction passes, spa certificates, tour vouchers and, again, roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines. The event, which takes place May 15 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., was conceived as a way to show visitors how much
the destination appreciates their business.

Finally, the LVCVA is offering "Residents' Rewards" through on-air promotions with 10 area television and radio stations to help educate the community about the benefits of tourism. Locals will also have the chance to win prizes and "play tourist" by experiencing Las Vegas attractions, courtesy of the area's hospitality industry. Prizes also include roundtrip airline tickets, also contributed by Southwest Airlines.

About the Benefits of Tourism
Tourism is not only Southern Nevada's largest employer and primary economic driver, but also the reason Las Vegas is a world-renowned destination. With approximately 40,000 new hotel rooms expected by 2012, more than 70,000 new tourism-related positions, as well as tens of thousands of additional jobs, will be created throughout the community. Furthermore, revenue generated by the tourism industry goes directly back into the community, translating into hundreds of millions of dollars to build roads, parks and schools. If it weren't for tourism, each household would pay nearly $1,000 more in taxes each year.

About Southwest Airlines
After almost 37 years of service, Southwest Airlines continues to differentiate itself from other low fare carriers-offering a reliable product with impeccable Customer Service. Southwest Airlines is the most productive airline in the sky and offers Customers a productive traveling experience. Southwest recently updated its gate areas and improved its boarding procedure to make flying Southwest convenient and simple. Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV), the nation's largest carrier in terms of domestic passengers enplaned, currently serves 64 cities in 32 states. Based in Dallas, Southwest currently operates more than 3,400 flights a day and has more than 34,000 Employees systemwide.
