STORY IDEAS - TRENDS
Are you looking for some fresh story angles about Las Vegas? Do you want to be the first to uncover the latest trends in one of the most talked-about destinations in the world? You've come to the right place. The following list of ideas is your trusted resource to discovering the latest happenings in the "Entertainment Capital of the World."

Mancations: When men really need to escape, they call up their buddies, leave the women and children at home, and take a "mancation." The "mancation," or man's vacation, is the latest trend in the travel industry involving a group of guys who just need to get away. And, nobody caters to a man's getaway quite like Las Vegas, the quintessential guys-weekend destination. A mancation to Las Vegas is not just for bachelor parties anymore. With plenty of entertainment, action and adventure, there is something for every taste, style and budget.

Girls' Getaways: Sometimes a girl just needs a break from it all. And, what better way to recharge your batteries than with a few of your closest girlfriends? Whether you are celebrating an engagement with a bachelorette party, or celebrating a divorce with a group of other "survivors," Las Vegas offers a unique destination for women. If you're looking for a weekend of peace, relaxation and some bonding therapy with the gals, or if you want to live it up and party like never before, Las Vegas offers a wide variety of unique options for the perfect girls' getaway. Being a girl has never been this much fun!

Nightlife at the Pool: Is it a pool or is it a nightclub? In Las Vegas, it can be both! The rise in poolside entertainment is bigger now than ever before. When summer rolls around, several of the hotel pools offer nightlife experiences. Just in time for summer, the owners of the popular Tao Asian Bistro and Nightclub at The Venetian opened Tao Beach last year, a seductive and sophisticated Asian-themed beach club and nightclub with high-end amenities and topnotch service. The Light Group has also added Bare at The Mirage pool, providing an exclusive adult alternative to the typical Las Vegas pool experience. There's also Rehab at the Hard Rock and Moorea Beach Club at Mandalay Bay.

The Rise of Towers: Long-standing properties have invested millions in tower expansions. New towers in recent years include The Venetian's Venezia Tower and sister property The Palazzo, Bellagio's Spa Tower and Caesars Palace's Augustus Tower. The Palms opened its Fantasy Tower, complete with Las Vegas' first Playboy Club on the top floor. Last year, Palms Place Condo Hotel and Spa became The Palms' third tower. Trump International Hotel and Tower opened its doors last March and Wynn Las Vegas introduced Encore, a $1.4 billion hotel and casino in December.

Downtown's Renaissance: Downtown Las Vegas is becoming a must-see for the city's nearly 38 million annual visitors. Third Street's popularity is quickly growing as a top-notch entertainment district with an impressive list of bars and restaurants including Triple George, Sidebar, Hogs & Heifers and Celebrity, a live-music venue. Nearby on Fremont Street are Hennessy's and Mickie Finnz Fish House and Bar. In addition, classic properties such as the Golden Nugget and The Plaza are investing millions in renovations and expansions to keep visitors coming back to the downtown area for many years to come.

The Fremont East Entertainment District just completed a six-month improvement project. The three blocks from Las Vegas Boulevard to Eighth Street have been redesigned to include neon-lighted gateways, neon elements placed in new median islands, decorative signage, expanded sidewalks, landscaping, lighting, banners and historical bronze medallions embedded in the sidewalks to commemorate significant Las Vegas milestones. This area is also home to hot nightspots such as Beauty Bar, The Griffin and the Downtown Cocktail Room.

Unique Transportation: Explore Las Vegas and beyond with innovative transportation options. Visitors no longer have to be confined to just rental cars and shuttle buses. Now, visitors can cruise in style along the 4.5-mile Las Vegas Strip aboard the Las Vegas Monorail that runs along the east side of the Strip or via The Deuce, the city's new double-decker bus system. Pink Jeep tours also are available for outdoor excursions surrounding the destination. Or explore the Strip and downtown from an aerial perspective by taking a sightseeing tour by helicopter.

Unusual Fountains: During any given afternoon, throngs of visitors gather at Bellagio to witness the hotel's awe-inspiring fountain show. But, inside Bellagio, another unique fountain awaits curious guests. Bellagio's Spa Tower is now home to the world's tallest all-chocolate fountain. Cycling tons of liquid white, milk and dark chocolate through a masterfully designed system, the infamous chocolate fountain at Jean-Philippe Patisserie is a sight not to be missed. Wynn Las Vegas also has a remarkable evening fountain show that incorporates laser lighting and dancing water.

Unique Spa Treatments: If you want to be pampered in style, there is no better destination than Las Vegas, where you can find a variety of relaxing spas and unique spa treatments at nearly every resort. Experience the sweet life with an aphrodisiac chocolate or sugar-laden treatment or channel your inner tribal goddess with a themed ritual inspired by cultures from around the world. Indulge in special holiday remedies or enjoy couple or social spa-ing in themed rooms. Qua Baths and Spa at Caesars Palace offers the Laconium Room (providing ultra-heat therapy), the Arctic Ice Room (complete with snow falling from above) and a Tea Room staffed by a sommelier skilled at pairing the herbal beverages with your chosen treatment.

Spa treatments are no longer just for daytime, either. For example, AMP Afterhours at The Palms is designed to serve just one privileged couple - or person - at a time. Guests can have the entire spa to themselves. Lingerie-clad nail technicians treat guests to the platinum pedicure in a candle-lit spa while they sip Cristal champagne and enjoy appetizers.

Sports Mecca: While Las Vegas doesn't yet have a professional sports team, the city is quickly becoming a prime destination for major sporting events. In 2007, Las Vegas became the first city in the National Basketball Association's history to host an NBA All-Star game without having a pro team. Also, The Tennis Channel hosted the Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas for a championship tournament.

Las Vegas' Western heritage makes it a perfect fit for the rowdy and exciting action of the National Finals Rodeo, an annual event in Las Vegas since 1985 and now under a new agreement to stay in Las Vegas until 2014. But, the new South Point Hotel and Casino is hoping to appeal to the more sophisticated equine enthusiasts with the addition of a 4,400-seat equestrian arena. The hotel's objective is to attract top-tier show horse and equestrian events such as the FEI World Cup Finals, which appeals to an international audience. The facility features a 250-foot by 125-foot show arena, 1,200 climate-controlled stalls, a hospitality bar overlooking the arena and approximately 150,000 square feet of meeting, banquet and exhibit hall space.

From Off-Road Racing and NASCAR to Harley-Davidson motorcycle events and Major League baseball games, Las Vegas continues to offer something for the sporting enthusiast in all of us.

Live Music Destination: Music has always been at the heart of Las Vegas entertainment. The destination invented the "lounge act" and eventually become synonymous with the Rat Pack and Elvis Presley. Today, more than ever, Las Vegas is a Mecca for world-class music entertainment, boasting performances by an enviable array of artists, across all genres. Cher and Bette Midler call Caesars Palace home. Barry Manilow brings music and passion to the Las Vegas Hilton. Playing in Las Vegas is also a must for sell-out, super acts like Justin Timberlake, The Rolling Stones, Kenny Chesney, Enrique Iglesias, Diana Krall, Beyonce, Keith Urban and many, many more.

Las Vegas Suites: In a society intrigued by the rich and the famous, this story never gets old. There simply isn't enough time to cover all of the luxury high-roller suites in the city that celebrities frequent on a regular basis. The Palms features the Real World Suite which was the home to the cast of MTV's "Real World: Las Vegas." In the hotel's new Fantasy Tower, The Palms has introduced the Hardwood Suite for the basketball enthusiast, complete with an indoor basketball court. A penthouse equipped with a bowling alley is available at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The Chairman Suite at the Spa Tower at Bellagio features a waterfall, three fireplaces and remote controls for everything from the drapes to the lights to the music. MGM Grand's Skylofts include pool tables, plasma screens, private chefs, infinity bathtubs, spa butlers, music butlers and much more.

Award-Winning Venues: Las Vegas continues to be recognized year after year for its quality restaurants and resorts. In 2007, the globe's most discriminating restaurant and lodging guidebook - the prestigious, 107-year-old Michelin Guide from France, created a guidebook to showcase Las Vegas' offerings. One of only four U.S. cities to be written up by this guide, Las Vegas joins New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The Michelin Guide Las Vegas 2009 features 140 restaurants and 32 hotels. For 2009, two restaurants and one hotel were honored with a five-star rating by Mobil Travel Guide, marking the first time a hotel has achieved such an honor. Alex at Wynn Las Vegas and Joël Robuchon at The Mansion at MGM Grand were each recognized as five-star restaurants while the Tower Suites at Wynn Las Vegas became a Mobil Five-Star Hotel. Recently, AAA announced their Four- and Five-Diamond Award-winners for 2009, considered one of the most prestigious recognitions that a hotel or restaurant can achieve. AAA Five-Diamond Award-winning restaurants include Alex at Wynn Las Vegas (fourth consecutive year), Joël Robuchon at MGM Grand (third consecutive year), Le Cirque at Bellagio (sixth consecutive year), Picasso at Bellagio (eighth consecutive year) and first-time winner Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace. On the hotel front, Five-Diamond Award-winners include Bellagio, The Four Seasons Las Vegas, Wynn Las Vegas, The Skylofts at MGM Grand and The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino.

Locals Las Vegas: Ever wonder what it's like to be one of Las Vegas' two million permanent residents? Where do they go to dine, shop and play? Whether it's neighborhood dining finds like VOX Wine Lounge or Vintner Grill, or unique watering holes like the quirky Artisan or deliberately dive-y Champagne's Café, or fantastic retail outposts like Talulah G (edgy fashion), Las Vegas locals are experts in off-the-beaten-path locales.
